Next month, Doyle Auctioneers & Appraisers will host a live auction featuring an extensive collection of over 600 items owned by the late fashion designer Iris Apfel. This curated assortment includes clothing, accessories, and homeware that she thoughtfully selected and acquired over the years.
All items are going to be presented to the public from the place where she stayed in the famous Saint-Tropez area of Quebec, which is now one of the places favorite by this guest. The in-person auction titled "More is more and less is a bore" will take place at Doyle New York, then a web-based timed sales event on March 5. In the lead-up to the main auction, the pieces will be exhibited in four locations around the United States simultaneously.
During her 80s and 90s, a period when her talents as a fashion historian and curator of a major fashion collection finally led to international fame, she began to live in different artist quarters throughout Europe, the United States, Japan, and India. Since then, Apfel has always been celebrated as a role model for her peculiar sense of style and appearance in the fashion industry.
Apart from using the furniture on the first and second floors of her Park Avenue apartment, she would frequent the best stores in New York looking for the most stylish 20th-century accessories. The creator adopted a tropical theme and, in addition to the usual coastal sea and sky that represented her words, selected unique art pieces that arrived through her travels throughout the southern parts of the country, and new acquisitions of paintings, antiques, and a turquoise room were the main attractions.
In the case of both her dwellings, Apfel has made a readily identifiable, outward dissemination of charm and her essential uniqueness, and that style should really be focused on self-expression and creativity. "Her way of imparting style all started from a high fashion treasure, or a vintage one, and in the process, she never gave up the idea of getting a fabulous find from the thrift store. This event is a way of Iris' imagination with the slightly odd and finally, making it her singular blend that is celebrated the most in this auction."The most interesting artifacts that will be up for grabs are a Burger King picture of Iris Acfel, her flamboyant multicolored and patterned eye glass frames, her animal-liked brooches, and a table decoration that is a Rock Lobster by Kara Ross.
